Want to see what happens inside 10 Downing Street?
ONDON (AFP) - Britain launched a virtual tour of Prime Minister Tony Blair's Downing Street office, giving web surfers a glimpse into the lives of the people who work behind the country's most famous front door.

The tour includes images of the Cabinet table, the Grand Staircase adorned with portraits of every prime minister, and the entrance hall, and can be accessed on the prime minister's website -- www.pm.gov.uk.

"This is an excellent way of showing the tremendous history of this building," Blair said in comments posted on the website.

"I feel very lucky to live and work here and if we can share just a fraction of the fascination of this extraordinary place, then the tour will enthral a great many people online."

Have great (if slightly damp) day.

Slapstick Funny Man Dies
Comedian Charlie Drake has died aged 81 following a long illness caused by two strokes. Announcing his death, Laurie Mansfield, Drake's manager for 37 years, said he was the "last of the great slapstick comedians". He starred in many television shows and films during the 1960s and 1970s and had a hit with the comic song My Boomerang Won't Come Back.
Drake died in his sleep at a home for entertainers in Twickenham, west London, where he had lived for about two years.

We wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and just in case you were wondering we have no live music listed for Christmas Day. Sing some carols instead!

Ice-cream fans can now get virtually their entire Christmas dinner made into the frozen dessert.
Harrods is launching three flavours: Brussels sprout, turkey and cranberry, and Christmas pudding.

They are available on request from an ice-cream parlour in its flagship Knightsbridge store

Tony will save the day ;-)
LONDON (Reuters) - Prime Minister Tony Blair has pledged to give British troops in Afghanistan whatever equipment they need in their "very, very tough" fight against the Taliban.

Britain has faced unexpectedly fierce resistance since sending the first large foreign force to the southern province of Helmand this year as part of a NATO peacekeeping mission.
The government has been accused of underestimating the Taliban and sending in a force lacking manpower and equipment.

Our guess is that what they would like are some days off, some decent equipment and some better air support. Remember folks that this was the Peace Keeping mission that John Reid suggested would not involve firing a single bullet. How bloody wrong can you be and still retain any credibility. Answers on a postcard please!

Police in Kentucky were able to track down a burglar after he left a video of himself committing the crime.

In the rush to escape, he left behind the video, which also included footage of a family party.

Want to learn about gear by being a roadie?

Learn lots by being a member of the road crew
Pink Floyd tribute act Us & Them are playing in October at Finn McCools in Weymouth on Saturday 21st. Any Floyd act worthy of the name has tons of specialist equipment and these guys are no exception.

So Us & Them are looking for some road crew. They are after one or two people to help them out at gigs - so it is a part time role in that respect. As they get bigger gigs, any pay can obviously increase.

Could be an opportunity for someone (or two) to learn a bit about the equipment, set up, etc. in a more professional environment, especially given the amount and type of gear they have.

Send your emails direct to Jason if you are interested. jason dot parison@virgin.net.

Obviously fix that email address with a . before trying to use the it though!

God, Music & Games

Has the Pope behaved like an arse?
Pope quotes 14th century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaeologus saying that Mohammad brought evil stuff into the world and spread its faith by the sword; doh, and the Christians didn't?

What about the Spanish in South America forcing the Catholic church on the natives?

Still it is useful to know that both Christians and Muslims claim to be peace loving whilst burning each others churches and Mosques down. What the hell would happen if they were war like?

Does Jesus get a look in on this? As far as I recall he was the chap who said "let him who is without sin cast the first stone". Seems like some of our religous leaders could usefuly return to the texts.

Gigs!
We have absolutely nothing listed for Monday 17th...shame.

What's happening on Tuesday 18th is West Dorset & South Somerset?

Nintendo Wii game machine to hit European stores December 8
LONDON (AFP) - Nintendo says it will launch its next-generation Wii game machine in Europe on December 8, six days after its release in Japan where it will cost 100 dollars less.
The Wii will in Europe carry a recommended retail price of 249 euros (about £170), Nintendo announced at a press conference in London.

The Wii, which allows users to surf the Internet and has a wireless control, will be released in Japan on December 2 at a price of 25,000 yen (212 dollars), Nintendo said Thursday.
It will be launched in the United States on November 19.

Shaped like a television remote control and engineered with motion sensors and speakers, the Wii control enables users to guide game play by moving as if actually wielding swords, swinging golf clubs, or firing weapons.

Sony was meanwhile to release the more expensive next-generation PlayStation 3 on November 11. (Unless the DVD drives flunk out again!)

Enjoy the working week!

Music For Africa Update
We had a quick chat with Tom Toomey who many of you will know as the head of Music For Africa as well as a local performer.

The recent MFA events raised around £10,000 to continue supporting the education work being done in South Africa. In an exciting development, new links are being established in both Gambia and Kenya to continue the good work.

In Gambia plans are under way to establish formal exam grades the african instrument, the Kora. It's early days in Kenya at present but a fact finding trip is planned.

Tom's new CD is now available featuring The Monfi Cats (no they're not really cats but the name of the band). Lots of festival outings are planned for the summer of 2007 and as yet we have not had time to properly listen to the CD! We will do it justice soon!

Auto-eroticism undoes driver
BRATISLAVA (Reuters) - A Slovak driver who crashed into a bus shocked rescuers who found him unconscious and half naked with a vacuum pump on his penis.

Police said the 42-year-old man, driving an old Citroen in the Slovak town of Levice, had ignored a "give way" sign.

"It's very likely he had auto-sex while driving, it is a matter of investigation. After the accident he was found lying in the seat, his pants were off and it (the pump) was placed on his penis," police officer Peter Polak told Reuters.

"I've never seen anything like this, nor have my colleagues," he added.
The man was taken to hospital with (dick) head injuries.

A new theatre company for Somerset is being launched called, Flax303. Flax303 will be based at Take Art in Somerset. Their mission is to present and tour new writing at small scale venues in the South-West and across the UK.

Their first production – The Rain Has Voices – is a newly commissioned play for Somerset, by Shiona Morton. A powerful, absorbing and uplifting drama about family, memory and new beginnings.

The cast of 5 will be touring with the ‘The Rain Has Voices’, which explores the themes of family, memory and new beginnings, on a stormy Midsummer night, as the waters rise around a remote levels village.

For more information on Flax 303 please contact Sarah Peterkin at Take Art on 01460 249450 or sarah@takeart.org.

Pout Tastic!
The size of your pout determines whether you will be lucky in love, according to new research.
Couples whose lips are of a similar size and shape are more likely to stay together. The study was carried out by the University of Leicester on behalf of Blistex. (No suprise then that Blistex make lip care products!)

Men are instantly attracted to women with luscious pouts but don't consider them marriage material - bad news for Hollywood star Angelina Jolie.

Have a great day

What to have under your desk this summer
We saw this at The Register.

Beer machine: Most people keep old files, cycling helmets and discarded sandwich wrappers under their desks. They don't get fired. On the other hand, if you buy a personal mini-micro brewery and keep that under your desk, not only can you have 28 pints of home-brew to hand whenever you want (ie. 9.45am), but your desk will smell of "socks in cabbage water". A P45-earner if we ever saw one. £99.95 from BoysStuff.

Fancy a day of music on the Bank Holiday weekend?

Dave Saunders of Mojo promotions sent through this information and we are happy to share it with here.
SUN 27th AUG - DERRIN NAUENDORF + HARRY SKINNER+DAVE SAUNDERS + CRAZY 88 + JINDER + DR STOMP + CHRIS JAGGER BAND + OTHERS.
(12noon - Midnight)
Happy Daze Music Day, The Barn @ Square + Compass, Windmill Hill, Nr Ilminster, Somerset.

01823 480467 All day entry £12.00 From 6pm £10.00 Under 16s £5.00

1pm - 2pm - JINDER
Making his first Somerset appearance since opening for the amazing HazelO'Connor, Bournemouth based Jinder is really making waves in the currentmusic scene, his new solo album 'I'm Alive' was produced by Stephen Smith(Sandi Thom, Gordon Haskell, The Producers, The Pretenders etc) The singlefrom it, 'Hill Country' outsold Morrisseys 'You could have killed me' two toone on its online release and will be available in the shops shortly. Onepraiseworthy review states 'Imagine Ryan Adams soaked in Cider playingLightnin' Hopkins'. They must have known he'd be playing here in Cider country!Forget James Blunt: Jinder is the future of young singer/ songwriters - you saw it here first!

2 - 3pm - CRAZY 88
Another young band severely shakin' the Somerset scene (it needs it too) and building a large and faithful (female!!) following, Crazy 88 are not just another rock covers band, they are serious and inventive musicians, taking great care over their show and presentation. With a great frontman in Ben Smith, a powerful, gutsy, well thought out stage act and their ambition to be 'Somerset's answer to The Hamsters' how can they go wrong! I've seen and enjoyed 'em, now it's your turn.

3.15 - 4.15 - STOMPIN' DAVE ALLEN
Previously known to all as Dr Stomp, Dave has 'stomped' his way through many a festival with his stage show bordering on mania and his stamina bordering on impossible! A multi-instrumentalist but sticking mainly to fiddle, harp and guitar (plus of course the obligitory stompboard) the good Dr has played most of the major festivals in the South including Sidmouth, Larmer Tree the Martyrs Rally, virtually every venue there is and appearedon TV. Fun and frolics all round, bet you won't keep still!

4.30 - 5.30 - DERRIN NAUENDORF
We were very lucky to get Derrin to play here, he has another gig in the evening but agreed to play this slot first for the charity. There can't be many around the country that have not yet seen Derrin's expressive and inventive guitar playing or heard his fantastic voice singing those marvellous songs. From Melbourne, Australia, Derrin has become a regular on the UK touring scene, appearances at pretty near every major UK festival and opening for such luminaries as Van Morrison and Tony Joe White have put him in the fore front of the singer/songwriter genre. I get the feeling all the girls will be at the front for this show!

6.00 - 7.00 - HARRY SKINNER + DAVE SAUNDERS
Frontmen and founders of The Producers Harry and Dave still attract alarge blues following particularly amongst the acoustic afficianados. Davehas just finished a tour with US bluesman Bill Sheffield and Harry has just returned from a festival in the the south of France. The first duo show in Somerset for quite a time will feature Harry's finger picking and Slideguitar with Dave on 2nd guitar and acoustic bass. Their CDs will be on sale as will The Producers back catalogue.

7.30 - 8.30 - BAND STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED

9.15-11.00 - CHRIS JAGGER BAND
OK we know he's got a famous brother right, and he happens to be in the country at the same time but Chris has always forged his own way through life having both a successful career as a journalist and a great love of exploration which has taken him to the far corners of the world. Beside being involved in several Stones albums Chris has released his own solo discs and is often seen onstage in the company of Ben Waters, Charlie Hartand many other musical talents. Playing guitar, washboard and playing arousing mix of Cajunesque rock 'n' roll and good time faves Chris and his band will have you on your feet for a fitting finale to the days music!

Fun music day with Acoustic marquee, Electric music in the Barn, BBQ, bars, food + drink, what more could you ask for? All profits to RNLI.

Wedding Trasher!
Police are trying to find a malicious caller who cancelled a wedding reception just hours before a couple were due to wed.

Emma Moschakis, 25, only found out the evening event had been cancelled by someone who claimed to be her when she went around to the Archers Road social club in Southampton, Hampshire, and was told by staff.

She had arrived on the eve of her wedding to Anthony Moschakis to decorate the room for the reception of 100 guests.

Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd dies
Syd Barrett has died, it has been confirmed.

Barrett was a founding member of Pink Floyd and considered by many to be one of the most influential musicians in rock'n'roll history. He is understood to have died at his home in Cambridge at the age of 60 last Friday, July 7, after succumbing to complications related to diabetes.

His brother Alan confirmed Barrett's death today, telling The Guardian: "He died peacefully at home. There will be a private family funeral in the next few days."Barrett retreated from public life and music culture in the early 1970s, after leaving Pink Floyd as his mental health disintegrated in the apparent aftermath of heavy LSD use during the '60s.

His legacy can be heard on the seminal and acclaimed early recordings of Pink Floyd, such as "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", and his solo material such as "The Madcap Laughs".

Have a Pink Floyd day.

ISPs urged to lock out file-sharers
LONDON (Reuters) - The British music industry stepped up its campaign against illegal file-sharing on Monday by demanding that two Internet service providers suspend 59 accounts it believes are being used to swap copyrighted songs.

The British Phonographic Industry trade group called on Cable & Wireless and Tiscali to join a crusade against consumer practices that have undermined music companies in recent years.

"We have said for months that it is unacceptable for ISPs to turn a blind eye to industrial-scale copyright infringement," BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said in a statement.

"We are providing Tiscali and Cable & Wireless with unequivocal evidence of copyright infringement via their services," he added. "It is now up to them to put their house in order and pull the plug on these people." Click here for the full story.

Apologies for the lack of posts

An apology is due to regular Suited & Booted web site visitors. Posting have been very light over the last couple of weeks. The main reason being a rather large issue with a dead PC just after the print edition went to bed.

Well with new super techy PC stuff put together and a mamoth software installation task just about completed, you can expect more regular posts from your local music and arts magazine.

Mad Swede makes his house a World Cup shrine

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish man gripped by World Cup fever painted his whole house in the blue and yellow colours of the national flag while his wife was at work.
"I knew she would say no, so there was no point in asking her about it," Janne Petterson said on Thursday.
"It was really fun to see her face when she got home."
He decided to paint the two-storey building, in a suburb of Stockholm, as a tribute to the Swedish team and win a newspaper competition for tickets to the World Cup final.

I'm not lovin' it: World Cup sponsorship blasted by British health journal
PARIS (AFP) - The prestigious British medical weekly The Lancet has blasted FIFA for letting the World Cup be sponsored by makers of booze, fast food and soda.

The international football federation was also scolded for backpeddaling from a ban on lighting up in stadiums, and for allowing branded tobacco paraphernalia as official merchandise.
The World Cup, Olympic Games and other big sporting events should not allow their image of health and wellbeing be hijacked by products that are linked to alcohol abuse, obesity and other diseases, The Lancet says.

Fifteen global brands have each paid an estimated 40 million dollars for the right to be an "official partner" in the 2006 World Cup.

Have a great day.

Wednesday. Footy, Arts, Music & MFA

Still watching the footy? Or perhaps you are completely fed up with it already?
Those already in Germany for the game with Trinidad & Tobabgo tomorrow have been warned to be on the look out for fake tickets which have changed hands for as much as £300 each!

Arts pages: yes or no?
This month in the print edition of the magazine we asked who (if anyone) was interested in the arts pages. We get close to zero feedback from them and if they are not read then we ought to change them for something else.

Well Art and culture lovers either get off your backsides and tell us what you think or risk losing these pages. So far we have had one reply from a Mr. Woodhead of Ilminster who very much enjoys the coverage. Thank you Sir.

Is there any one else or is that it?

JK Rowling voted Britain's greatest writer
According to a survey by book magazine Rowling has been voted as Britain's greatest writer!

Follow the link to this article which says:
It's usually her wizard hero Harry Potter casting the spells, but it looks like JK Rowling has conjured up some magic of her own after she was voted Britain's greatest living writer.

The online survey placed the popular children's novelist above such literary luminaries as Salman Rushdie and Harold Pinter. And she received three times as many votes as the second-placed author, fantasy writer Terry Pratchett. "Our survey provides a fascinating insight into what the British public thinks makes a 'great' writer" says Christine Kidney of The Book magazine.

Are they mad? Did only pre-teens respond to the survey? Even a dabbler in the reading stakes would surely rank a few writers above Ms Rowling. Yes her books are popular and cracking good romps for the kids but what about Shakespeare? Marlow, Orwell, Emily Bronte, Amis etc etc etc. Sometimes it appears that the surveys are only completed by the pre-teens...aaahh that would explain the results!

Thursday stuff & toilets

Based as this magazine is in Yeovil we do sometimes throw our hands up in despair at the apparent idiocy of life here.

Recently the main public toilets in the town centre shopping area were closed. Why? Because they were being used as gay pick places and venues for drug taking. The result? If you are desperate for the loo in Yeovil you had better be prepared to dive into one of the up market department stores.

Guess what guys in the council and town centre partnership, drug takers will still take drugs and people looking for a quick sexual thrill are still out there, toilets open or closed.

The Yeovil vision group prides itself on having that most desirable blend of city qualities in a country area. Presumably those qualities include people urinating in the streets and having to walk up to half a mile from the town centre to change a baby's nappy.

What a joyful place to be. Come on guys others towns manage to provide toilet facilities in central locations, why can't Yeovil? Oh and before someone trots out the old "it's too expensive line", just how much will the clean up costs be, to wash down the streets each day, that are covered in piss? How long will it be before someone challenges the council using the Human Rights Act, on the basis that their human right to dignity has been breached?

Events today in South Somerset & West Dorset
Show Of Hands (Hinton Festival) @ St George's Church, Hinton St George (probably sold out!)

Keyboard legend Billy Preston dies
The music world is in mourning after the death of keyboard legend Billy Preston.
Rolling Stone frontman Mick Jagger described the 59-year-old, who died in Phoenix, Arizona, as a "fantastic and gifted musician".

Preston, who had been in a coma since November after battling with chronic kidney failure, worked with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones as well as having his own series of hit singles.
A former teen prodigy on the piano and organ, Preston lent his gospel touch to classics such as the Beatles' "Get back" and the Stones' "Can't you hear me knocking?"

He had success as a solo artist in the 1970s, winning a Grammy in 1973 for "Outta space," and scoring other hits with "Will it go round in circles", "nothing from nothing" and "With you I'm born again".

He also penned Joe Cocker's "You are so beautiful," among other hits.

Mick Jagger said: "Billy was a fantastic and gifted musician.... a superb singer in both recording sessions and on-stage.

"He was great fun to be with on-stage when touring with us and I will miss him a lot."

Broken Bones
Today many football fans in England will be eagerly awaiting the outcome of the scan on Rooney's foot. The last time one tiny bone caused so much fuss and bother it was stuck in the back of the Queen Mother's throat!

Would you like to run your own Suited & Booted?

Run your own edition of Suited & Booted?
Have you ever thought about running your own edition of Suited and Booted? Is there a geographic area you think could be well served by a local edition of the magazine?

Well the great news is that you can achieve this through our low cost franchising scheme.

Yes you do still need drive and commitment and there is a capital investment involved, but in return you can spend time loving what you do and generate a part-time income from it.

By contacting us you can also find out about taking over an existing, well established franchise.

If you are serious, then send an email to suit_boot@yahoo.co.uk. A capital investment is required but you will also receive all the training you could need to get yourself up and going.

Monday fun

Well since this is a Monday there little going on musically for you tonight. Why not relax after what was probably a tiring weekend!

Have you got enough England flags displayed?
England fans willing their heroes to lift the World Cup are being offered the chance to adorn their wheelie bins with the Cross of St George.

The patriotic stickers are the brainchild of Adam Bird, who has already produced 100,000 of the "bin bling" flags and taken 300,000 orders.

Mr Bird, from Priorslee, Telford, Shropshire, is proud that his product, which can also be displayed on cars and vans, is being printed in England, at nearby Hortonwood.

A bit of fun!

Sunday...a day of rest...possibly

Wetherspoons & England Supporters
We heard a tale yesterday (Saturday) about the latest problems encountering anyone rash enough to be a supporter of England and be proud of it.

In the Yeovil Wetherspoons pub this week and man and his family were asked to leave the bar because the child, THE CHILD was wearing an England shirt!

Are the bar staff and Management stark staring mad or has some policy diktat been handed down from on high? The chain is crowing about its three new 'England World Cup Ales' on its web site, while at the same time apparently denying England supporters of the ability (age permitting) to drink those celebratory beers.

Top marks Wetherspoons for how to alienate your customers base, not since the Gerald Ratner clanger has someone done such a great job of pissing off their customers.

Friday, Flags & Music

Flags, Horses & Anally Retentive Old Wankers
If you have listening to recent news and comment you will know that some organisations appear to have an issue with the England flag. Police in Hampshire have had reports of horses being startled by the flags, or perhaps it was just a car being driven past at 60MPH that startled the horse.

Of course there are some people out there who just can't stand the idea of others having fun and being patriotic, well sod 'em. If you don't like the idea of an England flag flying then move somewhere else. (Yes we know about the safety considerations but we are making a general point here.) If this were the USA every house would have flags draped on it or flying from it.

Oh and quick message to Scots football supporters: Never mind...there's always next time.

Folks, it's ok to cheer your team on!

Are you job hunting?
Scientists at one of Britain's top universities are advertising for a new member of staff to help them relax near the end of a long, hard day. Academics in the Department of Genetics at Cambridge University want "someone to make us a nice cup of tea each afternoon".

An advertisement for the "Afternoon Tea Maker" appears next to advertisement for a "Genetic Literature Curator" on the department's website - and in a local newspaper.

It offers a pro rata salary of more than £11,000 and says applicants wanting a "full job description" should apply in writing or by telephone.

"We are looking for someone to make us a nice cup of tea each afternoon," says the advertisement. "Depending on the hours worked (10-15 per week) there will also be the possibility of some light cleaning duties."

Sounds like a good old fashioned char lady (oops char person) job!

Music For Africa
We had a chat yesterday with Tom Toomey, local muscian and the organizer behind the Music For Africa events. Tom is presently working on his now album, an eclectic mix of style that Tom describes as world music. You can hear some of the tracks by Tom & The Monfi Cats by going to his MySpace area http://www.myspace.com/tomtoomey. There are four great tracks to listen to including the rather mellow and beautiful Farfraes Dance.

On the Music For Africa front there will soon (in June hopefully) be a DVD available that has some of the highlights from last year's show. Check out the Music For Africa web site for more details but supplies of the DVD will be limited so get your order in early!.

This year's event happens on Friday 14th & Saturday 15th July at Montacute House, near Yeovil.

Have a great day!

Britain's youngest mother
The Sun reports that Britains youngest mother to is really excited at the prospect of having a baby. She became pregnant at 11 years old and is now just 12. The previous record for the youngest mother was 12 years and 9 months. The girl who is said to spoke 20 cigarettes a day is "excited" and her 34 year old mother is "proud" of her daughter.

Is it just me? But on how many levels is this story wrong? The country has gone bloody mad!

Thursday happenings.

Good news if you are a Keith Richards and Rolling Stones fan as he appears to be on the mend after his fall from a tree in Fiji. MORE GOOD NEWS FOR THE DAVID HALL!
NATIONAL LOTTERY GRANT MEANS PATRONS WILL SOON BE 'SITTING PRETTY'

South Petherton's David Hall has received further good news!

The National Lottery's Awards for All programme is providing a grant of £5,000 for Petherton Arts Trust (PAT) to provide more comfortable seating in this popular performing arts venue.

Announcing this latest piece of good news, Andrea MacLauchlan, PAT Manager, said: "We are absolutely thrilled that our application has been successful. As Patrons know, the heating has been improved, and with new chairs - which we hope will be in place by the start of our autumn programme in September - the Hall will be more welcoming and accommodating for our Patrons."

Mrs MacLauchlan added: "We have already ordered samples of several different types of stackable chairs and will choose the most comfortable that our Awards for All grant of £5,000 will allow." The David Hall seats 130 people and it is hoped that this will eventually increase to 160.

Meanwhile, on Saturday (6th May), an Auction of Items & Promises raised a further £1,700 towards the Save The David Hall campaign.

PAT member Tony Charman, who was also auctioneer for the night, reports: "It was a terrific evening, with some superb and varied items for auction and an audience of supporters who did not hold back on their bids. We are delighted with the generosity of everyone involved both item donors, and those who came to bid. This was yet another sign of how much local people want the Hall to continue to provide its regular programme of music and drama, as well as offering a public space for a wide range of activities that benefit the community as a whole."

PAT needs to raise £250,000 in all to refurbish, redecorate and upgrade facilities in the building, which already accommodates numerous daytime groups and classes - including belly dancing, line dancinng, drama and yoga - as well as PAT's own programme of folk, roots and acoustic music and the fortnightly Petherton Picture Show.
